The Fire and Life Safety division of the Environmental Health and Safety Department is responsible for the compliance of local fire code and federal building codes in the areas of fire alarms, fire sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, building egress and general NFPA life safety. EHS coordinates fire and life safety inspections of academic and residential buildings on and off campus, assists with testing and maintenence of all fire alarm and suppression equipment, coordinates activities with the Houston Fire Marshalls Office and permit office.
