Fire Drill Procedures
Mandatory, supervised fire drills are conducted at each residential facility and in selected highrise buildings once a semester. Drills are conducted in conjunction with Rice building management staff, EHS and the Rice University Police Department (RUPD).
Building occupants are instructed to use the emergency stairs or closest exit.
Mobility impaired students are instructed to go into the stairwell (area of refuge) and wait for further instruction from emergency personnel.
All occupants present in the facility during the drill are expected to participate.
A list of items are evaluated by the personnel conducting the drill and findings are forwarded to the building manager for review.
Following the drill any deficiencies in equipment are corrected and any misconduct by occupants are directed to their appropriate supervisor, building manager, or College Magister.
