Radioactive Material

Any Principle Investigator using Radioactive Materials (RAM) or sealed sources is required to register with the Rice University Radiation Safety Officer prior to work commencing. Environmental Health Safety and Laboratory Operations controls a license from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The Environmental Health Safety and Laboratory Operations department will assist department and personnel in complying with regulations by performing routine laboratory inspections, advising RAM users on radiation safety and regulatory compliance issues, implementing radiation safety policies, and responding to emergency situations.

Requirements for researchers who work with radioactive material or sources including any person who may be occupationally exposed to radiation.
