Research and Scholarly Activity Safety Advisory Board

The Laboratory Safety Faculty Advisory Board (Advisory Board) is charged with identifying and facilitating the implementation of strategies to enhance the safety culture at Rice. The Advisory Board will work with faculty, staff, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to review and refine procedures associated with the Laboratory Safety Policy 313; brainstorm effective training techniques; ensure that checklists and templates prepared by EH&S are useful and appropriate for faculty to implement safety requirements; that interactions between the faculty and the EH&S staff are constructive and enhance compliance with safety policies; and that safety issues arising through new facility construction and building remodeling as well as through changing federal, state and local safety guidelines and requirements are addressed. This Advisory Board is not envisioned as a safety enforcement nor monitoring group. It will not deal with day-to-day safety issues but may be called upon to provide opinions about controversial issues.
