Rice University has a commitment to protect all guests entering areas on campus where research laboratories or equipment may present an unknown hazard to the individual. Environmental Health and Safety will establish the minimal requirements to allow invited guests to safety work in a laboratory or university facility with minimal risk to the individual, environment, and general public.
Current university guidelines prohibit minors ages 15-18 from the following areas:
If you are invited to work in a research lab at Rice University, please refer to the safety training matrix to determine what type of training is needed and what additional restrictions may apply to you. Laboratory training may include emergency procedures, general laboratory safety, biosafety, blood borne pathogens, radiation and laser safety training. The training required for an individual is determined by the hazards present in their work area.
Contractors and subcontractors working at Rice University are required to monitor the safety of the work site and provide Rice University assurance for compliance with all federal, state and local codes applicable to the work being performed as well as adherence to all University Policies.
